Used to live in Subang Jaya before moving to Dubai so Malaysia was not only a neighbouring country to Singapore where I am currently living in, it was like my second home. Malaysians are friendly and once you get acquainted with them, even for a short period of time, you will experience their sincere generosity. I often get invited to parties and one of the most memorable was the Malaysian F1 celebration in Selangor.
My manicurist-turned-friend is a Malaysian and every now and then, whenever there’s some food she thinks I would enjoy, she will make an effort to bring them over to Singapore for my pleasure. This time as Mid Autumn Festival draws near, she brought me some special mooncakes from Johor Bahru (JB).
These mooncakes are special
Because firstly, the elongated shape differed from the usual round (some squares) ones and secondly, the pastry is actually creamy, melt-in-the-mouth shortcrust not unlike those of Pineapple Tarts. There’s milky taste in the dough. The only link to normal mooncakes is the filling of sweet lotus paste and Chris has ordered those with one yolk for me. The savoury yolk did well to offset the overall sweetness of the cakes. I loved it!
Thank you, Christina!
