My elder daughter is now in the maternity ward coz the stork is delivering my second grandson! Tae Jin is now a hyung, meaning big brother in Korean! 😄
And you know what again? TY’s arrived in time to collect his ang pow!
Happy birthday Tae Yang 태양 and Everybody! 😄😄😄
Confinement Longan Tea Recipe
20g Dried Longan Flesh, rinsed.
8 Red Dates (pit removed), rinsed.
1 tablespoon Wolfberries (Goji Berries), rinse only when adding.
4 slices Old Ginger.
1.5 – 2 litres Water.
Rock Sugar, optional, to taste.
Bring water to a fast boil, add rinsed ingredients except for berries and simmer uncovered on low heat for 40 minutes. Add more water during simmering if necessary. End yields about 1.3 litres of fruity drink.
Add Goji Berries and simmer for 5 minutes. Turn off heat, cover the pot with lid and steep for 10 minutes.
Sieve and discard ingredients and pour into a hot flask to keep warm. This is treated as “plain water” to be drunk throughout the day for the whole of the confinement period which is 30 days.
Confinement Longan Tea is also good for anyone (not overly yang/heaty persons) who has caught a chill or would just like to keep warm on cold nights.
Note for New Moms: If you are drinking this during confinement (30 days), do not be tempted to make very thick brew by adding more ingredients unless you are making a huge pot. As said it is a yang or heaty food and you may be constipated. Try to balance and eat/drink in moderation for the long term good health.
I’ve prepared the must-have Longan Tea for the new mom’s speedy recovery and is visiting her in a bit.
Happy brewing, drinking and bonding! 😄
