Happy 49th Birthday Singapore!

I was offered two tickets (very hard to come by) to one of our National Day Parade (NDP) Combined Rehearsals (CR) last month but unfortunately, I was away in Macau. However, I was able to capture some scenes in two outings (June and July) in between my travels and would like to share them with you. I will be heading down for more fireworks later this afternoon, today being the actual day of celebration, it will be grand!

“Majulah Singapura” was played while the helicopters, with one carrying a giant Singapore flag, were flying overhead on 28th June 2014 during a Combined Rehearsal for our upcoming National Day Parade on 9th August. “Majulah Singapura” (Malay for “Onward Singapore”) is the national anthem of Singapore, composed by Zubir Said in 1958. Singapore law says that the anthem may only be sung with its original Malay lyrics although there are approved translations of the lyrics in 3 other major languages, English, Mandarin and Tamil.

The Official version and the translated lyrics of Majulah Singapura:

Official language – Malay:
Mari kita rakyat Singapura
sama-sama menuju bahagia;
Cita-cita kita yang mulia,
berjaya Singapura.

Marilah kita bersatu
dengan semangat yang baru;
Semua kita berseru,
Majulah Singapura,
Majulah Singapura!

Marilah kita bersatu
dengan semangat yang baru;
Semua kita berseru,
Majulah Singapura,
Majulah Singapura!

English:
Come, fellow Singaporeans
Let us progress towards happiness together
May our noble aspiration bring
Singapore success

Come, let us unite
In a new spirit
Together we proclaim
Onward Singapore
Onward Singapore

Come, let us unite
In a new spirit
Together we proclaim
Onward Singapore
Onward Singapore!

让我们共同向幸福迈进;

团结在一起;

团结在一起;

Without further adieu, let me share my joy with you 🙂

National Day Parade Rehearsals

A giant flag flypast in one of the CRs earlier this year.

National Day Parade Rehearsals

As the flag flew out of sight, the skies started to change with dramatic clouds and colours creeping in.

I was excited waiting for the next event…

As soon as the night falls, the fireworks would start!

MBS GBTB-4624-4

My first photos of the iconic Marina Bay Sands – an integrated resort fronting Marina Bay in Singapore.
“Developed by Las Vegas Sands (LVS), it is the world’s most expensive building, at US$ 5.7 billion, including the cost of the prime land. The property has a hotel, convention and exhibition facilities, theatres, entertainment venues, retailers, and restaurants.” – Wikipedia

Those with purplish lights are the Giant Trees at GBTB.
I hope to go there one day and take some photos of the flowers.

MBS GBTB-4631

The night ended all too soon for me.
I had no fireworks photos, not even one.
The black card method I had employed was hopeless.

National Day Parade Rehearsals

A different day in July 2014 at The Promontory (in front of Customs House) opposite MBS.

National Day Parade Rehearsals

I did not bring my long lens so I took this picture with my handphone.

Waiting patiently for the night to come and the fireworks to begin its magic.
The fireworks would be launched from where the tiny orange barrels on the platform was (on left).

National Day Parade Rehearsals

This was the base photo I took for blending, a new method I was learning to take and post process the photos of fireworks.
I’m not using the black card any more, as twice (at last year’s NDP CR and the recent outing in June) I had nothing to show for.

This is a blended picture of two photos (base photo above).
Nothing spectacular but I was too lazy to stack in more photos.
I am, however, very pleased with the clean result.
Maybe I could take better pictures tonight.
Wish me luck! 🙂

      You are teasing me Michael, lol… I am venturing into other fields. I am actually very much into macros of bugs and still does them pretty often but I’m afraid to showcase them in my blog. Bugs and grub, will they blend in? Thank you for your frequent visits and kind words of motivation. I’m really grateful for you 🙂
