Noryangjin Fisheries Wholesale Market 노량진수산시장 Part 2

After more than an hour of shopping for the best buy (or so we thought), we went to the second floor where half a dozen of restaurants are equipped to cook your seafood.

We went to the one recommended by the fishmonger. I am not very impressed with they way they handled our cockles and sea urchin. While it was not the cook’s fault but ours to have bought the wrong stuff, the items presented were not appetising; bloodied cockles and not properly cleaned uni. Even then, we had a satisfying meal with the hotpot and sashimi. Our celebratory mood for this trip must not be dampened!

The eatery and I supposed all the eateries were busy during the peak lunch period thus service was functional at best, so cannot complain. What needs to be done gets done albeit a little slower than what we would like 😉

It had been cleaned and sliced as shown on the left.
The texture was slightly chewy and of course, very fresh.
You can taste the sea in those slices.
On the right were the Salmon we bought from another vendor.

Luckily we did not buy as many as we originally wanted!
These were supposedly Uni or Sea Urchin but they were yucky to the max!!!
Definitely not the kind we had enjoyed any where in the world that we had visited.
Complete let down.

We thought we had a good bargain with these Akagai but they seemed like giant cockles and tasted horrible!

Live mini Octopus.
These were still alive and wriggling when we ate them.
We had to meticulously chew them before swallowing as the suckers on those tentacles will leach onto our inner cheeks.

I got squirmish eating the whole head live so I decided to put it into the hotpot and had it cooked.

Hotpots or what we locals would call steamboats.

The stock was spicy but they did not tasted like kimchi stew.
A refreshing change full of seafood “sweetness”.

Every hotpot was topped with Chrysanthemum Leaves.

We bought 2 different types of crabs.
This was steamed and the other breed went into the hotpot.

      I have a video but I’m afraid there’ll be haters, lol… The trick is to chew them up into a kazillion pieces as quickly as possible 😉
