Toa Payoh Lor 7 Fish Ball Noodles @ Shaw Lido Makan Bagus

It’s Movie Night and this time we watched 22nd Jump Street at Shaw Lido Cineplex.

Valerie and Ryan opted for a Japanese meal at Ippudo Sg @ Mandarin Gallery. They woke me up in the late afternoon for an early dinner and some shopping afterwards but I was simply too tired – still in bed nursing my lethargy after staying awake for more than 36 hours.

So I missed dinner with the kids and had to look for something to eat somewhere near the cinema. I got off the cab at Shaw House and walking through the building where Lido Cineplex is housed, I saw Food Republic. It must be newly opened.

Sharks, I did not bring out my camera but a mobile phone would do just as well. Keeping my fingers crossed 🙂

Walking past the Food Republic Food Court, I saw these two having Teochew Fish Ball Noodle.

I went to the stall to check out their delicacy.
Those big white fish balls looked tempting.

I told the order taker at the stall that I wanted QQ noodles and he recommended Mee Kia (thin noodles).

Valerie was with me at the stall.
She couldn’t resist the delicious looking fish balls and decided to have a side order without noodles.

Ryan didn’t eat the fish balls. He only wanted the soup when Valerie shared her side order with him. The soup was very tasty and I highly suspect msg! Oh bugger 😉

Some stalls’ fish balls are off white in colour but the ones sold here were almost pure white. The texture was very light and airy, most suitable for someone very young and elderly, lesser chances of getting choke. There was a clean crisp, no resistance bite into these balls.

Did I like the fish balls? Yes and no, depending on my mood and my oral condition I supposed… Remember I have periodontitis? You can read about it here, The Hidden Pain.

The Signature Noodle set that I ordered came with 3 fish balls, a couple of fish ravioli and 3 slices of fish cakes. The QQ noodle as recommended by the man was not the QQ-ness I was looking for. Somehow, there was a starchy feel to the clump of cooked noodles. And if the Mee Kia is the most QQ noodles they have to offer, I would rather order Kway Teow instead, next time. I say next time because the overall taste was acceptable and I would eat from this stall again. The seasonings was to my liking. I think there’s ketchup in it. Ya, I think I will order kway teow dry with lots of chilli sauce and only the fish ravioli if they can customise my order.

Wow! I’m amazed how exorbitant food cost is these days!
Luckily I can still get some nice noodle dishes at Kopitiams for S$3.

You were up for 36 hours? No wonder you forgot your camera. You probably fell asleep in the movie. 🙂
