A Little Girl Is Lost…

There’s a new addition to my family 🙂 Did I mention that my elder daughter is engaged? Of course, I did! Maybe in a couple years’ time you’ll be reading a granny blog, lol…

A glorious day for any parent who's child duly completes her studies. Valerie was admitted to the Bachelor of Arts Degree with Honours in The University of Melbourne on 21st December 2011.

Every mother has 2 dreams for her little girl – that she’ll grow up to be a confident and happy woman, and to be able to find and enjoy the companionship of a compatible life-long partner.

Every father thinks no boy is good enough for his little girl and the old man in our house did not differentiate in that thought!

Ryan has been wooing Valerie since their junior college days but he has never had it easy in his courtship since her dad and I are protective over our little girl (and in our eyes, she’ll forever be). We only gave in to Ryan’s perseverance and determined love this year, last month to be exact.

Borrowed a quote from Marilyn Monroe to my soon to be son-in-law... “She's selfish, impatient and a little insecure. She make mistakes, she is out of control and at times hard to handle. But if you can't handle her at her worst, then you sure as hell don't deserve her at her best!” His most assuring reply to me was "Got it, mom! I'll keep that in mind."

If Valerie was his dream girl, I think I was his nightmare. My mom used to drill into me to “keep both eyes open before marriage and one eye closed afterwards”. Since those in love are blind, I had to be Valerie’s eyes. Poor Ryan! He had to put up a lot with our (Val’s dad and I) demands and is proving himself to be a fine gentleman, worthy of our blessings. And in turn, we are blessed to have him as a new member in our family – tried and tested! Lol…

It was not from out of the blue when Ryan proposed. As a token of his love, he gave Valerie a simple but significant brilliant cut as he believes diamonds are forever, just like his love for her. Now, my job is to engrave some lessons in their engagement ring and hope they will find its meaning as they grow old together.

Worrying is like a rocking chair. It gives you something to do but doesn't get you anywhere. It is not about being the best. It's about being better than you were, in any small little way.

A little girl of mine is lost because this girl has turned into a woman 🙂

Good things come to those who wait. Best things come to those who do. Valerie will be saying "I do" to Ryan later this year!

A little girl is lost… But a son is found!

My dearest Ryan and Valerie, with all my best blessings, I wish you both a happy life ahead!

P.S. The nuggets of wisdom offered here are not my creation but they are lessons gathered in real life. Some expressions were found online; they are adapted and used for the benefit of my children. Thank you for sharing.

Happy learning 🙂

Thanks for sharing my joy, Draco. I think he hated me when we were living in Melbourne but those “testing” days are over. I’m getting used to one more calling me “mom”, haha… 😀
