Hip Hip Hooray!

Thank you everyone for the kind concern expressed. Mom is recuperating well after her operation and is back to her jovial self. She saw the platforms (3 inches high) that Valerie was wearing and she squirmed. “Put on sensible shoes!”

My mom fractured her hips. She was wearing, according to her, cheap sandals. The straps got hooked onto something, caused her to lose control and plunged to the floor, right outside the main door of her apartment. The cheap footwear cost a bomb in surgery and mental distress for everyone. Lesson: Only wear Christian Louboutin. Hahaha…

Vanessa had to work and couldn’t make it this afternoon. And although Mom was happy to see Ryan and Valerie, she kept saying “You don’t have to come if you are busy. I have good company here. The nurses and doctors check on me regularly and there’s plenty to eat.” Then she lamented that she’s getting old. “You all should go… and don’t come if you aren’t free. Go, go, go for lunch.” That’s my mom. Yeah, she’s like a broken record at times but she’s cute 😀

I planted a kiss on mom’s head and we left for lunch. Valerie suggested going to Tiong Bahru for chwee kueh. She was too excited to eat a heavy meal. They had something to do. Like collecting a little robin’s egg blue box with white bow. Hmmm… The iconic packaging that has been reported to make women swoon and men sweat. You getting my not-so-subtle hint? 😉

So I have two hip hip hooray – one for mom and one for this couple!

Mom, Valerie and Ryan.

This was from Wah Yuen 华园粥品 .
It was ordinary.
The Lor Mee (noodle dish) I wanted had sold out so I settled for mixed pork porridge.

Ma Lai Ko literally means Malay Cakes. When Valerie and Vanessa were very young. they used to enjoy snacking on these fluffy cakes. Once they asked me why the skin of the cake was tough. I realised then that they ate the baking parchment used to line the basket of batter for steaming. Lol...
