Hua Ting Restaurant 華廳 @ Orchard Hotel

Before Jerry went to switzerland, I caught up with him over lunch at one of his favourite places to eat.

Hua Ting is a very old and popular Chinese restaurant in Singapore. It is helmed by Masterchef Lap Fai, who was crowned Asian Cuisine Chef of the Year 2012 at the World Gourmet Series Awards.

I would say more than 90% of dim sum items are Cantonese, with some Teochew snacks and modern flavours/fusion “tapas” thrown in to make up this very old school cuisine we enjoy today.

I do feel that Hua Ting lacks a little imagination when it comes to culinary creativity (Paradise Group seemed to excel in this, i.e. their rainbow coloured xiao long bao) but when push comes to shove, Hua Ting did surprised me with the sliced fish fillet used a filling in the rice rolls. Their signature baked tarts had very nice flaky puff pastry with chunky bits of chicken and mango. I like them even though I found them too be on the sweet side. The chilled mango sago pomelo dessert tasted like those I had in Macau, even better! It had rich unadulterated mango puree, chopped mango and generous amount of pomelo. Awesome for mango lovers!

Hua Ting remained a popular Chinese restaurant with Singaporeans till today because the basics are retained. When quality and freshness in ingredients are expertly employed by experienced chefs, it is hard to find fault with my meal.

Jerry had a discount of 50% so we got S$36.95 off the bill before taxes. <br />We had Fresh Lily Buds (vegetable dish) which was quite refreshing but somehow I'd accidentally deleted it and some other files :(

Happy eating 🙂

P.S. Did anyone noticed a change in the way wordpress is operating now? It seemed to be more complicated. I cannot insert a new line in my photo’s caption where I only needed to press “enter” key the day before. This is getting too complicated and technical for me since I have no knowledge of html or whatever language they call it. Btw, I am blogging straight from the browser without installing the wordpress application at all. I like to know if you folks have installed the application on your cPanel, and if it is easy to blog?

    I don’t use captions, so I can’t help.

If you got 50% off, good reason to go back again. 🙂

Have to wait for Jerry’s return, lol… 😀

Thank you for reading my P.S. Hopefully, wordpress wouldn’t continue to get too technical.
