Faber Bistro

Faber Bistro serves a small mix of International cuisine including Italian fare, German sausages and western dishes. The view from the uber chic hilltop den’s al fresco dining area is awesome! The prices are reasonable. Service is friendly. An ideal place for romantic date? Not quite as tables are spaced quite closely but it sure is an idyllic getaway when you feel like escaping for a few hours. Just make sure you have transportation unless your friend(s) doesn’t mind a slow walk up and then down the hill.

I was disappointed with the Nachos I got. It came with bolognaise and cheese dips. The corn chips were so ordinary there’s nothing to shout about. I felt like I had bought this at a cinema. The beer my friend had was not cold enough, also.

The FB Giant Burger, however, was a treat! The two hunky beef patties were made of ground sirloin. Although not as pink as I would like, the tender and juicy meat did make up for it. The generous slices of blue cheese made the burgers slightly salty so if you are concerned, scrape some off like me. The chardonnay was chilled enough and good as a house pour.

This combination seriously reminded me of snacking at a cinema. It's just too ordinary to be served here.

I had it open sandwich style, scraped off half the blue cheese as I felt the given portion overly "salted" the burger.

We had just missed the Happy Hour when we arrived but it's no big deal, we didn't intend to drink much as my friend drove. Drink driving is a very serious offence in Singapore and mitigating factors from recalcitrants are rarely taken into account. The anti-drink driving campaign slogan here is "When you drink don't drive". Not because you might hit a bump and spill your drink but you may just land up in jail. Likewise, when you drive, don't drink. Too many lives have been lost due to irresponsible behaviour on the road.

The beer sleeve did nothing much since the beer wasn't cold enough in the first place.

The coldy-holdy looked cooler than the taste of the alcoholic beverage.

Perched on top of the "world". We had a pleasant time. It was good to get away from the hustle and bustle of a densely populated city, even if it was only an hour.

Overall, I would rate this place a 7.5/10 for food, service and ambience.

Will I go back again? Yes, for the view, the wine and perhaps the aglio olio and mesclun salad. I’ll need a date with car though 😉

Sam! It’s really strange for me to see you indulge what I would say is typically American food. Kind of shocked to see the chips and cheese dip. Would never have thought of that as a real appetiwer. I get your 7.5/10 rating.

What a fabulous view! Unfortunately it’s not always enough, is it? I personally love salty food so blue cheese would be “extra please” for me. I’m surprised they would serve such forgettable cheese dip and chips. You can tell by looking it came from a can. Bleh…but still, what a lovely view!

Agree. The view demands much better food than nachos. Champagne at the least. 🙂

  4. what a sinsfully and great live Sam,
btw, i definitely wanted that “nasty” cooler in my place…
just simply sneaked it into your handbag…..LOL

  5. “international cuisine” I can’t believe it. It’s like the Easter Bunny bringing chicken nuggets!
