GRrrrrrr!

Today’s the day I have been waiting for.
It’s almost once in a life time chance to be able to see Gordon Ramsay in person.

With so many chanting “Gordon… Gordon…” in the background, you’d think an international rock star is in town for concert!
I met KC earlier in Chinatown for food before we went for Gordon Ramsay’s event at Newton but it was madness madness and more madness! Throngs of security kept steam rolling us backwards, hard whistle blowers they were too. “Make way! Make way!” They would yell. How in the world was I going to catch a glimpse of GR (Gordon Ramsay)? It’s GRrrrr… for me! Sandwiched literally in a sea of smelly people, most of them who had come much earlier than myself. These people had been basking under the hot tropical sun, sweating like horses in our humid weather.
I felt squished like a sardine in a jam packed tin being shoved to the left and right. At one point during my stake out, I thought I saw a girlfriend of mine who was an actress with our local media being ushered into the prohibited area as one of the guests of honour. I whipped out my phone and started to call her to check if she could invite me in or at least come out and get my camera to take a shot at GR. And then it hit me… I was thinking to myself, “Omg, Sam! You’re a paparazzi!” And I wanted to vanish into the thin air.

I’m telling you it’s madness.
There’s people being chased away by the security for climbing up onto the tin roof too!

Food being loaded for tasting and voting later. You have to queue for the tasting and decide who to cast your votes.

The contesting dishes were from Mr Ang Kiam Meng from Jumbo Seafood (319,922 votes), Mdm Foo Kui Lian from Tian Tian Chicken Rice (318,151 votes), and Mr Ryan Koh from 328 Katong Laksa (316,611 votes).

The appropriate hairstyle to wear on this ocassion. I was dripping in perspiration. My “high” hair went limp.

After being jostled around, this was my best shot of Gordon Ramsay.
Say what? My picture’s blur?
Yea, I was holding the loaded camera and clicking away on one hand for a long time.
I’ll get a great shot of him sooner or later I know. I’ve got to!

My best shot at GR! Grrrrrrrrr…
Gordon James Ramsay (born 8 November 1966) is a Scottish chef, restaurateur and television personality.
He has been awarded 15 Michelin stars in total and currently holds 14.
The result?
Congratulations to Tian Tian Chicken Rice and 328 Katong Laksa.
They have won in their challenge and are our local hawker heros!
Gordon Ramsay won the Chilli Crab!
Could it be because Jumbo is not a hawker? I wonder how it got voted into the hawker category in the first place! See my past post on Jumbo Seafood Restaurant’s Chilli Crab here.
Tian Tian Chicken Rice won by 6%.
328 Katong Laksa won by 19%.
Gordon Ramsay’s Chilli Crab won by 5%.
Happy Monday 🙂
What fun! I particularly liked the chefs playing their pots, pans, and wok.
Oh yes, I like that too. It’s like school band, i enjoyed the beat quite a lot, 😀
Wow didn’t know Sg peeps are so into GR. Great picture recap 🙂
I’m actually quite surprised at their reception of GR too. They raided him when he went for toilet breaks, lol…
Wow! He’s one popular dude! I would have been annoyed and tired of the smelly people in the humid weather, too. But, still. It would have been worth it… I guess. 😉
Yes, I guess it’s worth the while even just to see what goes on around. The mood was contagious actually but I was getting weary from the energy sapping sun and humidity 😀
I’ll bet! At least you can say you went!
