Not James Bond But Maternal Bond!
We all woke up late and had a simple take-out lunch at home. Valerie still looked stoned and Vany, erhm, she can be a grouch so let’s not dwell into her state.
We were supposedly having Thai food but I did not feel like it. I had wanted Japanese but being Mother’s Day, En Japanese Dining Bar was fully booked. In the evening, we took a cab to Dempsey in Singapore.
Could this be the restaurant they are bringing me for dinner? They wouldn’t tell me where I was going.
Whose house is this???
House at Dempsey.
We were there around 8.30pm so diners have thinned down.
Still, there were enough customers to keep the staff busy. We had to look around for service and asked for menu.
James Bond did not turn up but Bruce Lee was here!
Let’s order 😀
Our waiter for the evening.
Apple Cider for the ladies. Apple Cider (Bottle) S$25.00 and Coke S$5.00
Happy Mother’s Day. The celebration begins… Cheers!
I couldn’t be happier spending this night with both my girls – the very first time since 2004 that all of us are together in the same place on Mother’s Day!
A toast to ALL Mothers!
Baked Brie with Bread. S$16.00
Artisan Bread Basket (where’s the basket?) were served with the Baked Brie.
How does it taste like? We’ve eaten brie countless times but never had it baked. This dish was a recommended must try! Served with fruit relish – in this case grapefruit which added a nice tang to the otherwise rather bland taste of brie.
This recipe which was chanced upon in the northern suburbs was contributed by courtesy of Chef Ratha from Black Sheep Cafe (French cuisine) located at 35 Mayo Street, Singapore.
Well, it was good! Let’s tuck in.
Legendary French Fries sprinkled with Salt and White Truffle Oil. S$11.00
Truffle seems to be the latest craze for the past few years.
Truffle or not, some things taste better with good old mustard and ketchup. Not forgetting the Thai sweet chilli sauce.
Squid Ink Paella. S$29.00
This is a Seafood Paella with squid, clams, prawns, black olives, semi-dried tomatoes and sauteed capsicums. It is supposed to come out with a crusty top and the bottom of pan rice was also crispy. Garnished with parmesan cheese and sprigs of fresh coriander. Beautiful colour.
Squid was excellently cooked just right.
The prawns were succulent almost crunchy. The clams were a little too tiny. Overall, I enjoyed the paella.
Braised Pork Shoulder Rigatoni. S$28.00
The tender strips of pork were smothered in rich tomato sauce and very very slight hint of chilli which I find not spicy enough. The chunky rigatoni was cooked to perfection – al dente, which I liked. Valerie could not finish her meal. The portion was generous… too generous for a petite young lady.
Roast Chicken with Mash and Fondant Carrots. S$26.00
Nestled in hearty mash and sweet carrot chunks, the spice rubbed chicken was roasted till fork tender. Some said it’s Christmas in a bite but no coloured balls detected here. Vanessa said although the chicken was tasty, something is amiss.
Bay Prawn Capellini – House’ classic S$26.00
Chilli with Prawns Bolognese together with baby leeks and garnished with micro herbs. It was topped with pecorino cheese but Seong loved parmagiano. He asked for parmesan shavings to curb his cravings.
My gracious hosts.
Valerie and I.
Vanessa and I.
Warm Chocolate Toffee Cake S$9.50
Warm chocolate toffee fudge was poured over the top of this piece of chocolate cake.
No food is more enjoyable than when you have to fight for your share 😉
The seam of the moist cake was filled with toffee. Super duper yummy!
I can have my nut-free cake and eat it. Just did too 🙂
These were the books I used to consult when my girls were young. That pouch is one of my Mother’s Day gifts. The meaning of Samantha according to this creative manufacturer defined Samantha as Resolute and Forgiving.
My Mother’s Day Gift 2013.
This used to be Valerie, later Vanessa and I do most of the nights when they were younger.
They loved reading and being read to.
This nostalgic piece of Mother’s Day gift dates back to 2002. Behind, they described their dad as sponsor, Val the artist and Van the critic. Well, I was and still am the beneficiary of this precious, made by my children 😀
Hope you all had a restful weekend. It’s been wonderful for me and my girls. Thank you Seong for the treat 😀
Happy Mother’s Day 🙂
