I must say I am truly blessed with good friends online (you folks :D) and offline (my physically here friends). And because of friends, I get to go places that are not within my radar.
KO knew I had been ill and was not eating so he brought me out for dinner tonight. Originally, I had wanted Chinese sweet and sour pork but we weren’t sure where to go for good crunchy ones so while we were still in the car, K turned to me and said “since you are not feeling well and should avoid oily food, why don’t we go for porridge?” In my heart, I was thinking congee again??? I’m not that sick! Okay, I was thinking out loud and he heard. I sheepishly asked “Taiwan porridge?”… he answered yes and my head went nodding in agreement with every strand of my hair in pain. The venue was somewhere in Spring something something road (I am a local tourist, remember?) and halfway there, K suddenly turned to me and said cheekily, “there’s another place we can go to, if your tummy’s up for it… Have you heard of level 10 wings?”
Howdy Folks!

Contentment and Bliss!
Buckaroo is an American fare bbq and grill restaurant near the road to Bottle Tree Park, located at 12B Andrews Avenue in Sembawang. Hidden in the middle of nowhere and nestled among the private houses and condos, it was like a food paradise oasis in a desert! What is more amazing is that although this place is quite ulu (remote in Malay language) even for us locals, and not near to any public transport, it is still able to draw a good crowd especially on weekends so reservations is highly recommended.
For starters, we ordered the onion rings. The presentation of this dish was quite interesting. Usually, when you order onion rings, they are served in a basket but here, they stacked the chunky rings in what looked like a kitchen towel holder and of course it is not as you can see it was customised with their name embossed. I like the fact they were not too oily and I could bite into the crunchy sweet tasting onions underneath the crisp breadcrumb coating.
The next dish to arrive was what we came for, the super spicy hot wings! K and I were debating on the level we should order in the car. K said his friend had told him of someone dying of stomach ulcer due to consuming too much chilli and that is why he stopped eating too much chilli. He said we should go half the scale and order level 5. I had wanted to be the hero and go for level 10 but alas, sense took over. I am sick and so I shouldn’t push my luck! The server was kind enough to entertain our questions on how the level 10 diners reacted when they ate. He said some threw up and were given milk to help cool their numbing tongues and coat their fiery stomach lining. It was practically a fire warfare in their tummy. And if “war is like fire; people who do not lay down their arms will die by their arms,” then I should lay down the chilli and opt a level lower even, so… level 4 it is.

Spiciness at level 4 wings – secret chilli ingredient not available but staff said one drop of the potion is 1 level up!
K was perspiring so much I thought a tiny rain cloud hovered over him, hehehe… I know I’m bad but I can’t help it. There was no sting at all for me and I think I should be able to try level 6 next time if he ever brings me out again after this sniggering episode! Perhaps, I should have given him milk?
I must admit I can be quite a carnivore and so we placed an order of extra meaty bones to go with our Erdinger Dunkel and Hoegaarden…
Okay, this photo was “fisheyed” to pronounce the effect of how greedy I could be after a day’s fast, hahaha…

I am lousy at taking pictures with red based sauces like ketchup, bbq sauce and curries. Hmmm… time for some tips, any photographers out here care to advise me? Thank you 😀
Probably because I am not feeling well for I normally have a huge appetite, we did not finish our food except for the ribs. Although the texture was not exactly fall off the bone, they were tender and quite flavoursome. What’s there not to like about a stack of baby back ribs? There were, however, leftovers of wings and rings. Overall, I like the ambience there. It feels like a mini getaway in our hectic island. I never knew we had such tranquil existence! Thank you K 😀

Good to hear you’re able to imbibe beer now, so you’re improving 🙂 Too bad you had to leave some wings and rings on the plate. Onion rings look fun and perhaps a good way to keep them crispy instead of packing them together in a basket.
Someone said “Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming –WOW — ” What a ride!!! hehehe… Even though body still aches 😀
Nice to see you can eat food now which isn’t specially for when you are sick (though that congee you put the other day looked amazing!!) If your online friends were close-by, we would also take care of you I’m sure 🙂
Hahaha, I’m sure 🙂 Thank you Sofia! I’m feeling so much better now. I realised one thing though… that part of my body ache is due to a culprit I will reveal in my next post 😉
I will be waiting to see why! I’m glad to know you are better 🙂
